Is the train or the tram faster to the city centre? The train, at 13 to 19 minutes, easily beats the Metrolink tram at 35 to 50 minutes. The tram only wins if your destination is directly on the Airport Line.

Is Uber allowed at Manchester Airport? Yes. Uber holds the airport's official digital private-hire concession from 2026. You meet the driver in the designated pickup area following the "Ride Hail" signage, not at the terminal door.
Does Bolt operate at Manchester Airport too? Yes, Bolt also operates at the airport, using the same meet-in-the-car-park pickup process as Uber. Late-night availability can be thinner than during the day.
Are there 24-hour transport options? Yes. Taxis run 24/7 and the free drop-off shuttle runs overnight. Trains and trams do not run continuously overnight, with last services in the late evening and the first tram around 03:45.
How long is the walk from The Station to the terminals? Allow a genuine 10 to 15 minutes. The Skylink is a covered elevated walkway with travelators, but the distance is over 400 metres, longer than most people expect.
Is there a coach or bus service from Manchester Airport? Yes. National Express runs direct coaches from The Station to Piccadilly Coach Station and on to cities including Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, London and Birmingham, with fares typically £3 to £10. Is there a drop-off fee at Manchester Airport? Yes. The T2 and T3 forecourt costs £5.50 for 5 minutes, £6.50 for 10 minutes, and up to £25 for the 30-minute maximum. See the drop-off page.
How do I avoid the drop-off charge? Use the free drop-off area, which gives up to 60 minutes free with a 24/7 shuttle, or drop at The Station and use the train or tram instead.
How do I pay the drop-off charge? Online only. The forecourt uses ANPR cameras with no barriers, so you pay by midnight the following day. Unpaid, it becomes a £100 charge, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
Can I use the drop-off zone to pick someone up? No. The forecourt is drop-off only, and using it to collect a passenger also triggers a £100 charge. Use the free drop-off area and its shuttle instead.
Where exactly is the free drop-off area? It is widely reported to be at JetParks 1, with a 24/7 shuttle bus to the terminals. You get up to 60 minutes free before a £25 overstay charge applies.

What other official parking options are there? Meet & Greet, where a driver parks your car at the terminal, starts from £85.99 for an 8-day stay. Mid Stay, 5 to 10 minutes from the terminal, starts from £79. Drop & Go starts from £69.99, and the turn-up Multi-Storey, nearest to the terminal, starts from £65 for a 4-day stay. How early should I arrive at Manchester Airport? Around 2 hours for short-haul, 3 hours for long-haul, and 90 minutes to 2 hours for domestic flights. Add about 30 minutes in peak periods and school holidays.
How long are the security queues? About 91% of passengers clear security in under 5 minutes, but peak and holiday waits can reach 25 to 45 minutes.

What is the 3-hour rule at Manchester Airport? You will not be let through security more than 3 hours before your scheduled departure, so there is a limit to how early you can go through, as well as a recommended minimum.
Is the 100ml liquids rule still in force at Manchester Airport? Yes, as of summer 2026. New CT scanners have been rolled out, but the 100ml limit on liquids in hand luggage still applies here.
Which terminals does Manchester Airport have now? Two, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 closed on 19 November 2025 and its building was absorbed into an expanded Terminal 3. There is no longer a Terminal 1, so ignore any old directions to it.

Are there Changing Places toilets at Manchester Airport? Yes, in both terminals. The airport does not provide slings, so bring your own.
Is there help for disabled or reduced-mobility passengers? Yes. Free assistance is provided through the airport's Passenger Assistance service, with a 24-hour trained team. Book with your airline at least 48 hours ahead.
Is there left luggage or baggage storage? Yes. A left-luggage and baggage storage facility, run by Excess Baggage, is located near The Station, at an indicative price of around £5 per bag per day.
Where can I smoke or vape? There is no smoking or vaping inside the terminals. Designated outdoor shelters sit at the entrances, plus a post-security smoking area in T2 near Gate 300.

Where is lost property at Manchester Airport? Manchester Airport uses a lost-property service managed through a third-party portal, where you report and search online. Items found airside are handled separately from items left on an aircraft, which your airline deals with.
Is Terminal 1 still open at Manchester Airport? No. Terminal 1 closed permanently on 19 November 2025 after more than 60 years. Its building was not fully demolished but was folded into an expanded Terminal 3, rebranded from March 2026.
